Episode 7 - Dan and Dave Run Run From a Clip Show

It's easier to come up with a title when it's only one episode.

It's an odd number (13) and we didn't want to bridge the two seasons, so a single episode about season 1 episode 13 and then a season wrap up seemed in order.

Oh this is officially our CNDOP episode, I don't care if it's late, what did you pay for it?

Mickey Dolenz?

An army of robutts to rob Fort Knox?  SIGN ME UP!

Oh it's a clip show.

ROCKY!

I don't think Lee Majors is what I'd call 'comfortable' as an actor, but boy is he comfortable on a horse.

There was a lot more acceptance of men in their 40s creeping on teenaged girls back then it seems.

On to a season 1 wrap-up.

Season 1 was fun, if uneven.

The show is WAY more violent than I remember, I think Steve has personally killed like 6 guys this season.

I think the show was trying to be more 'serious' in season 1.  It isn't yet a cultural phenomenon.  (Where the hell is Cloutier when you need him?  No not Buddy Cloutier, I mean the Dr one).

Is Steve famous?

Is OSI his full time job?

In this timeline, are astronauts just going to the moon all of the time?  It seems as if the show is almost postulating a 'For All Mankind' type of thing where we keep investing in space.  I was really hopeful for stuff like that as a kid.

What are your thoughts?

Episode 3 - Dan and Dave Take an Orphaned Airplane to Doomsday

Gee, these title are a lot harder to come up with when you talk about two episodes at once.

That said, we have a couple of fun ones.

Little Orphan Airplane has Greg Morris, Mission Impossible's Barney Collier, as a guest star, hard to say anything bad about that!  Frankly, I'd love a Mission Impossible podcast.  Hmmmmmm.

Those nuns were fun.

The nuns recognized Steve, which is nice, as he, you know, WALKED ON THE EFFING MOON.

I enjoyed Steve pantomiming a plane.

Hey, Steve, those, improvements, do they come in Black?

Doomsday and Counting is a classic sort of detente era show about the Russian, or, as Oscar would say, 'the sawvyets'.

Well known Russian Gary Collins.  Wearing Bieber's hair.

Nice Star Trek connection in this one, we have William Smithers as a Russian General (oddly enough standing by an East German symbol, but whatever) and he played Merik in Bread and Circuses, and the guy who calls for Steve and Vasili was in thee TOS episodes.  Wait, William Smithers was in two episodes of Mission Impossible.   You know, if I believed in a higher power, or any other, umm, magic, I might see this as a sign of some sort.  That the universe wants me to do a Mission Impossible watch through podcast.

'Well Mr. Gold Mahn'. Maybe that's why Oscar mispronounces 'Soviets'.

Episode 2 - Dan and Dave and Robotic Fireflies

BIONIC GUITAR
We are now fully into season 1.

They still aren't doing much of the bionic sounds.

These two episodes were aired in early February, 1974.

Joke Kapp?

We got a little Dan Brodbeck guitar in this but I'm afraid it didn't record well, my fault.  I mean it's obviously my fault, Dan does this for like a job and such.  Oh also, Dan wins awards for things like this.  I don't...

Hey there's also a parapsychologist in this one, so there's something dumb for both of us.

It's ChatGPT with a wire face
John Saxon!

Steve's clothes continue to impress.

Wait, again, Joe Kapp?

BIONIC GUITAR!

That robot is pretty freaking impressive.

Robot alligators + Monkey sounds = Florida.

So is that Mickey Dolenz?

It's also our Dad's birthday, so happy birthday Dad.

Episode 1 - Dave and Dan's Fit Population

This title is disappointing, even for me.

As we are doing two episodes per podcast this will present a challenge...

NO BIONIC SOUNDS.

The lack of bionic sounds really takes me out of the show oddly, we'll see how Dan reacts later (in case you haven't figured this out, I write theses 'show notes' in advance).

Population Zero is like half the Andromeda Strain.  (BTW, that's a decent movie).

Oscar Goldman calls Steve 'pal' a lot.  I dig that when done unironically.

I am going to harp on this throughout the whole series, WHY DON'T PEOPLE RECOGNIZE A GUY THAT WAS ON THE FREAKING MOON?

'Adjusting some tiny trim pots.'
